Mrs D, who created this dish was known for her expertise with all things dough! These cheese triangles are absolutely delicious.
Beoreg Triangles
Golden tasty cheese triangles
Ingredients
Dough
- 3 cups plain flour
- 1 egg (beaten)
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup water (warm)
Filling and Assembly
- 500 grams grated tasty cheese (cheddar)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 125 grams butter (melted)
- ¼ cup milk (warm)
Egg Wash
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons milk
Finishing
- 1½ teaspoons nigella seeds
Instructions
Dough
- Mix together the first four dough ingredients and knead to form a dough.3 cups plain flour, 1 egg, ½ cup vegetable oil, ½ cup water
- Divide into small balls – the size of a tennis ball. Cover the dough and leave to rest, meanwhile prepare the filling.
Filling
- Beat the eggs, add the cheese and baking powder and mix well.500 grams grated tasty cheese, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 2 eggs
Assembly
- Mix the melted butter and warm milk.125 grams butter, ¼ cup milk
- Roll out the balls of dough to around 2mm thickness, similar to a puff pastry sheet. Cut into squares, around 8cm x 8cm.
- Brush the top of each square with the butter and milk mixture, avoiding the edges where possible.
- Place the cheese filling in the centre of each square, then fold into a triangle. Lightly dampen the edges with water, then press or crimp firmly to seal.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
Finishing
- Beat together the egg wash ingredients.1 egg, 2 teaspoons milk
- Brush the tops of the triangles with egg wash, then sprinkle with nigella seeds.1½ teaspoons nigella seeds
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (160°C fan forced) for around 25 minutes, until golden.
